Senate bill 510 is supposed to be voted on soon. Many small farmers could be hurt by this. Please read the bill here, or search for bills here, or read the alternative bill, the Coburn bill s3832 here.
Here is a clip from Food, Inc. But, unfortunately, Michael Pollan (the voice on the clip) has ENDORSED s510 and not even responded to the problems of food production being brought under Homeland Security, the exchange and saving of seeds being illegal or government controlled, the weakness of the Testor Amendment to solve the root problems. We need to grow farmers, not inspect factories that produce things people eat (I don't call that stuff food)!
Democrat Governor Strickland made a stand which can be an example to Republicans who claim to be for a free market. In 2006, Governor Strickland stopped the Ohio Department of Agriculture in the midst of their ridiculous pursuit of small-scale diversified farmers who were accused of selling raw milk. He did this in the first two months of his recent term. We, the undersigned, want governor Kasich to also stop the Ohio Department of Agriculture from harassing the farmers who are making raw milk available to people through private contractual arrangements, including herdshare/cowshare agreements and private buying clubs.
This harassment will probably be evident again just after Thanksgiving. And the power base of the establishment Big Ag will woo our new governor Kasich to join their forces to "keep our food supply safe". That will be the mantra, but it will really be about political power. Let's give governor Kasich the political power to say no to them! Governor Kasich, will you go for the rights of the people or will you go for the schemes of Big Business in extracting our rights to access the foods that we decide to eat? The FDA says that we don't have the right to choose which foods make and keep us healthy. Only the FDA can tell us. That includes our politicians, our politicians can only choose foods that the FDA says are good for us. What if you learn differently? What if you realize that the FDA is run by politics and money, more than health concerns? Will you support this consolidation of power into the hands of Big Government and Big Business? We DO NOT have a free market now, will you return us to a free market?
The government has no right or authority to restrict my access to raw milk especially when I have entered into a PRIVATE contract for such purposes! The effect of these government restrictions is to enrich large corporations by creating a product monopoly and forcing small farmers to sell their land or turn into a Confined Animal Feeding Operation (CAFO). That milk has made me sick, whereas raw milk from pasture fed cows and goats has been health-building for my body. Many others share this experience. To escape the tyranny of too much centralized power, control and influence over the lives of the common man is why this country came about.
Thus, here is a FREEDOM CHALLENGE from Michael H. Taylor of New Richmond, Ohio and all those signing with me for all state government offices, even our federal representatives & senators, but especially the for Governor of the State of Ohio:
As a public servant will you commit to:
REMOVE the state restrictions over citizen's right to obtain, produce, sell and transport raw dairy? and

Let's stop mistaking Big Business for freedom. Freedom allows for fair competition. Big Business gets Big Government to eliminate the competition. In our food supply this is a direct assault upon our health and lives. It is not a Pro-Life stance to be Pro-Big Ag.

Farmageddon Trailer 1410 from Kristin Canty on Vimeo.
Let there be fair competition. Current subsidy programs create a certain market (for nutrient deprived products) and discourage another (for nutrient dense products). When a market has four or fewer companies with a market stake of 40% or more, they set the rules in the market. We are well past that in many agricultural markets, especially milk! Where are the Anti-Trust forces when it comes to milk?
When God creates a body (you), this creation is given rights. When the state created a body (the corporation) it gives that body its limits, that body does not have the rights of God's creation, but the rights assigned by the humans (the state) who created it. In the Declaration of Independence this concept was recognized and the country established upon it in the US Constitution. Ohio was set-up in similar fashion. One piece at a time, lawyers have deconstructed this free country. Corporations are not God's creation with the rights and abilities given by God, they are created by humans and much less able than humans. The state is not authorized to tell a human to not sell or drink raw milk. The state is authorized to tell its creatures, i.e. corporations, what to do.
Raw milk has been central to the health of most populations in the world for thousands of years. Milk is not even a drug, nor should it be a controlled substance requiring government regulation; but government is regulating it, and in doing so, altering its very health-building essence. Consumers have a constitutional right to private contract and to consume this healthy product as specified in the contract, without alteration by or subjugation to government mandates, pasteurization or other impositions.
How can consumers vote with their dollars if their vote is illegal or regulated out of the market? How can consumers help to make our food delivery system better when the market is cut off? How can CAFO operators test changing their business model when they are in slavery to giant corporations with no options. How can we divorce care for our health from nutrition in our food when pointless regulations designed for CAFO problems make a price of the healthy pastured animal products even higher? No, EVERY BODY (animal and consumer) wins when the market place allows food choice, fair competition, and truthful education about our food products.

Learn about the state's destruction of Big Ag's competition as it is NOW occurring in Missouri. How: We have also received correspondence from the Missouri Milk Board, stating that "No administrative regulations allow the appeal of the State Milk board's administrative order..." Did you hear that? NO APPEAL! and they have to trash their savings in the form of cheese!

The Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund is helping slow the decline of our food supply. Look at the extreme measures that the FDA is taking in the Morning Star Dairy case. And then tell all elected officials to dismantle this terroristic monster that we have and are creating.
Check out the USDA's report referring to the 33% decline in small dairy farms
The recent Ohio legal battle over labeling RBGH milk--Big business tells us that there is no evidence that their product causes disease and until there is, you should eat it without the right to know, no right to choose milk produced from RBGH animals or milk produced from RBGH-free animals. It is about money and current markets, not health. Will you choose health? Vote with your dollars.
Listed here only 10 points of Injustice:
1) There is a milk cartel and it does hurt you: Less than 5 companies have more than 40% of the market--even more than 65% and they set the rules and regulations and they continue to grow. Small-scale dairy farms have dropped by 33%, while dairies with more than 2000 cows have increased by 128%--someone is doing a lot of buying up of small farms, eliminating jobs, and concentrating wealth with lower paid factory style employees at dairy plants (not farms).
2) Pasteurized milk is said to be free from the risks of raw milk, actually proportionately more illness is caused by pasteurized milk consumption.
3) Many people who have experienced illness on pasteurized milk, experience healing and health when consuming raw milk, e.g. The bacteria associated with ulcerative colitis in cows survives pasteurization. Pasteurized milk is one of the most offensive things in cases of human ulcerative colitis. Yet many folks with ulcerative colitis have successfully relied upon great quantities of raw milk in their recovery program.
4) The milk cartel has put forth false and misleading information to lead the public and the government to believe that all milk is the same and raw milk is dangerous. These schemes and lies hurt people.
5) Milk produced from factory farms is lacking important nutrients and then it is damaged through pasteurization and homogenization. This milk is dangerous raw or pasteurized, being nutrient deficient (see Milk Nutrient Potential).
6) The health value of raw milk from cows following a daily rotation on healthy pastures (along with other factors, such as breed) is not known to the public.
7) The right to privately contract with a farmer for personal raw milk sourcing is being attacked and has been totally suppressed in some states.
8) The small-scale, diversified family farm has lost a major means of income production by loosing the ability to directly market superior raw milk products directly to consumers.
9) The corporatization of our food production has regulated thousands of years of safe, sustainable, straight-forward, common sense food production and processing out of the hands of local small-scale, diversified farms.
10) Big Ag with Big Government is centralizing our food production & processing facilities and increasing chances for food-borne illnesses and diseases from nutrient-less foods. The concentration of power, resources, food production, money, etc. into the hands of a few (be they business or government) is unsustainable and dangerous, refer to history.
More Information/Here's Why we are concerned:
See a video made for the Ohio Issue 2 of 2009, note that the issue is Big Ag forcing small-scale, diversified farms out of business. See Joel Salatin talk about the remedy at the end of the film.
I want to write a very short and succinct communication of the issues to be read by everyone, but especially politicians. The problem I have is the thing about them understanding the complexity and mind-control of the Big Matrix that is set up, how they don't see it, how they are part of it, and how they can tear it down and reap better rewards than by building it up or going along with the system. Here is my attempt today:
Tax-payer subsidies set up an imbalanced market where the proper diet (pasture) of dairy animals is replaced with the cheaper alternative, grain. The manipulated market denies the farmer of his rightful due payment for the wealth produced, thus small farm dairies are have declined by 33% while large dairy production facilities have increased by 128% from 2001 to 2009. In these large facilities the animals are not healthy and die in an average of 37 months on this artificial program. The people consuming the milk and meat of these animals get a product that is nutritionally deprived, and, in the case of milk, altered by pasteurization and homogenization. But, God, great in His mercy, has designed into the cow and the humans many back-up systems so that we don't die immediately from these imbalances and deficiencies. Unfortunately, the farmer still financially looses.
Farmers have been sold expensive means of production, high capital start-up costs, and markets have changed to a standardized fluid milk product--No Fat, Low Fat, 2%, and Whole Milk. This unnatural product selection has been sold as a health benefit. Yet the population continues to become fatter and sicker. Intestinal diseases proliferate on pasteurized, homogenized, nutrient-depleted popular pseudo milk known throughout the land. But those who discover the much maligned raw milk from pastured, healthy cows who live 12 to 22 years have testimonies of healing and health upon their enthusiastic words of support for milk freedom.
Big Ag has set up a support system reaching into the universities, the medical profession, the Departments of Health, the Departments of Agriculture and politicians. They surround all of these participants with misleading and incomplete information. This allows them to create a mindset that has now, with the urbanization of America, leading most Americans to fear the microbe, to fear that which is natural, to crave a bacterial free food supply, etc. Those who become sick and tired of the mainstream cures not working and having side-effects sometimes wake up to the thought about how significant foods must be to their own health and experience of well-being. Farmers who begin to supply the foods of old, like raw milk, come into conflict with the rules of the business of Big Ag--now well established in state and Federal laws and policies.
As these small-scale, diversified farmers learn farming methods to make increasingly healthy soil, which produces increasingly healthy foods, they come into increasing conflict with the Government imposed regulations of Big Ag. A great conflict arises. The small-scale, diversified farmer has seen and usually experienced the healing responses of people eating more nutrient dense foods. One 50-sometihing dairyman a little north of Columbus, Ohio, was going to give up farming, because it was just too tough for the small farmer. Then, he learned to care for the soils naturally. His pastures got healthier and healthier. He started a herdshare system of making available the raw milk from his healthy-pasture feed cows. He began to hear of those who had been infertile for 10 years reporting of their happy pregnancies, of people with chronic degenerative diseases reversing their cancers, arthritis, diabetes, and so on. Even an autistic four year old girl with whom he nor even the child's mother could hold a conversation or even understand, after 8 months was able to intelligently converse with him at her subsequent visit to the farm!
Big Ag is a concept that we all operate within, having expectations of out-of-season foods, shipped from far-away places, having little taste and presented in unnatural and frequently, unhealthy forms. Since we don't immediately die from this nutrient depriving system, we perpetuate it while we feel less human and develop disease conditions. We also become conditioned, like the proverbial frog in the pot of increasingly warming water, not wanting to change the system, no experimentation allowed with things that are deemed dangerous. Thus, when the increasing numbers of us who have had healing responses to far-out concepts like eating raw milk, raw meats, fermented meats with lots of bacterium said to be disease-producing, we present a crisis too great for many to inquire about or understand. The rules of society have forbidden the foods we healthier people eat and upon which we build our lifestyles. The Big Government wants to take our responsibilities to choose our foods and tell us that we have no right to choose our own foods, unless it was pre-approved by the FDA. This outlandish claim is actually from a court brief filed in Missouri in June of 2010. Can a lawyer actually make such an egregious statement, let alone file a brief stating this total rejection of person responsibility and choice??!!! Send them to China or Cuba or North Korea or some other more authoritarian state! This is an outrage! Wake up people!
The way off of the Road of Destruction is to maintain the abilities of people to exercise their God-given rights to choose what sustenance by which they will run their own earthsuit and the ones of their children for whom they are responsible. The state can only make a just claim to breech this right, when a clear and present danger exists and to protect the weaker or dependent from clear harm. When raw milk is consumed and 3 million people find health improvement and 3 people die from a bacterial infection that is said to have come from the milk, don't you think something is missing? Perhaps what we put in our earthsuit should be dependent upon what we have previously put in our earthsuit and the terrain of the gut. This is what I have found to be more truth than the contradictory philosophy that claims that bacterium cause disease.
